In an effort to expand to more eco-friendly, and ideally using compostable materials I figured painting with tea would be a good start. I was inspired when fighting a cold and helping myself to plenty of hibiscus tea. The color is just as beautiful as the taste. I wondered how it would behave on paper? I made myself a pot of tea with two bags, which makes it fairly weak in terms of color. Poured myself a cup, and some to work with. I also set up some for the younger kiddos to do too. It's best to move the tea one drinks to one side and the tea you dip your brush into on the other.
The kiddos practiced brushstrokes and painting hearts. Not feeling very creative with subject matter I just painted what was in front of me along with suggestions from the kids, which was hearts. In this value scale you can see that a bug fancied it's way to taste the tea.
I especially enjoyed the blue and violet shades these created.
