EMBROIDERED ZODIAC SIGNS FOR BABY

There are SO many things one can make for a baby. The list can seem endless. I know because I have made plenty of things for friends like stuffed animals, hats, blankets, and so on. We have a fresh nephew in the family and I wanted to make something special for him.

Begin collecting your materials size and thread for your stitching. I didn't actually use all these materials, but wanted them on hand just in case.

Materials I used for this project:

  • felt
  • embroidery hoop
  • scissors
  • embroidery thread
  • needle
  • pen & paper
  • frame
Sketch out your idea. I cropped the top part of mine to keep this young lad's birthday and name private.

I went with the Zodiac sign. I did make my capricorn more friendly than some that I saw. There are plenty of aggressive capricorn mascots out there.

Sketch out your drawing on the felt. Then begin drawing with your embroidery thread. A wonderful reference for techniques is the book Handsewn: The Essential Techniques for Tailoring and Embellishments by Margaret Rowan.

Keep going at it!

Above the Capricorn I had the boy's name and birthdate written with embroidery thread as well.

At the end I decided to frame this to give it to the parents. Another option is to make a pillow. You would just need another piece of felt for that. I have a few very special Capricorns in my life. I'm sure this little boy will be no different.
