A few weeks ago I was in NYC and went to the MET, as it is one of my favorite museums. The exhibition, Balthus Cats and Girls was up and I went to take a peek. One of my favorite rooms was filled with the story of Mitsou, forty ink drawings from when Balthus was just eleven years old. It's a story of a small stray cat coming into the household.
The variety in mark making and narration of the story is enjoyable. I bought the catalog (photo above) mainly because it had all forty of these drawings in it. Naturally, some great paintings too. If you are in the area, you should check it out before January 12, 2014.
